'Reconsidering Passionate Faith' The Passion of St. John the Baptist "I want you to give me at once on a platter the head of John the Baptist." - Mark 6:25 Even if we aren't tempted by an outright prosperity gospel calling us to "name and claim" our material hopes, I often stop and consider more subtle distortions that might be creeping into our faith life. Is my faith life as exciting and vibrant as the book covers and church signs ask? Does it make me confident, amazing and feeling beautiful? Is it passionate? Well, if I consider the life of John the Baptist and specifically his "passion"--which actually means "suffering"--I might pause and reconsider my expectations of what a passionate faith would really look like. Jesus, with John the Baptist, I embrace your way of sacrificial, faithful passion. - Amy Welborn
